AL Youth Advocate Wins Award
Congratulations Jose Ocampo!
Jose was presented with an Advocate of the Year award on October 25, 2007, by our sister CIL Progress
Center for Independent Living. Jose is a Staff Associate at Access Living and organizes for the
DUDES guys' peer support group. He is also a graduate of the Advance Youth Leadership Power youth
advocacy group and a member of Chicago ADAPT. Jose is a passionate advocate for the rights of people
with disabilities and a good friend to many. He is also concerned especially about people with disabilities
who speak Spanish. You can sometimes hear Jose on the Chicago radio show La Vida Independiente with Horacio Esparza.
In the picture above, he is protesting a nursing home that violated the rights of people with
disabilities.
