If you're looking to figure out what's
happening around the world with young people with disabilities and you want to use the Internet, here
are some ideas to get you started.
Google can be your best
friend. Go to: www.google.com. Click on "News." In the search box, enter terms like “youth with disabilities”, “special
education”, or “disability rights." Google will bring
up news stories and show when and where they were posted. You can get up to the minute info because they show what time
stories were posted. Be the first to get the scoop!
The world of blogging offers a lot of
disability news. A really good place to start is the Gimp
Parade at http://thegimpparade.blogspot.com/,
which also has a huge list of other disability-related blogs, so you can surf to your heart’s
content.
Different disability groups will often post
hot news and you can find some of these at the Gimp Parade. One good source is the National Disability Rights Network at
http://www.ndrn.org/media/news.htm which
posts advocacy news from around the U.S.
There are disability listservs that you can
join to get e-mail news too. Try Justice For All E-mail
Network (JFA), which you can subscribe to at http://www.aapd-dc.org/JFA/JFAabout.html.
There’s something going on every day that
will inspire you to fight for your right to live the kind of life you want to live. Also, knowing what’s happening in other places can give you ideas to
make change in your area. So start checking stuff out
today!
